SLM, Monflanquin (47)

SLM’s most recent paintings are on the walls of Salle Aquitaine in Monflanquin from 22 to 29 June, 2012.

After participating in the "Blau Blue Blue" international exhibition in summer and autumn 2010, in which the artist presented a collage work on canvas of architectural drawings painted in ink and incorporated into an oil composition, she presented paintings on architectural designs directly painted in ink and oil for her exhibition at Hotel de France in Auch in September 2011.

Today, if she keeps the ink and oil technique, her palette is more sober. SLM had accustomed us to flamboyant colors during her previous visit here in June-July, 2009. Three years later, black, white, sepia, tierra of Siena, a scale of gray build imaginative structures or highlight them.

Where have women, men and horses gone? Are they within these walls made of transparencies, these urban and marine landscapes (La Havane), or are they elsewhere?

Yet, nothing sad in this absence but something serious (Le Monde), some humor too (Coin de Ciel Bleu). Despite the deconstruction (New York Reversed), the effect of dizziness (Home in Heaven), the illusion of perspective (Town in Town), there is a fine - almost serene - equilibrium where to find some support and start dreaming.

You're invited to do so!

Four fewer days to subtract from three more years ...
Salle Aquitaine renews with the work by Sylvie Landois-Maynard.
Salle Aquitaine is amazed because it had preserved the memory of the color, the violence of color in a tumult of characters who were highly colorful, too.

Has SLM changed?
No, she has not. We rediscover the same face surrounded by curly hair, the same warmth and hospitality in the description of her work.
So, let’s ignore the colors. Salle Aquitaine, which has known a lot, will gracefully welcome a new period of her work.

A wholly rigorous presentation, rectangular and square canvasses, all on black background, as if the artist had, in advance, approached their effect on the stone walls; the exhibition shows a remarkable unit, alternating black and gray hues.

The inking is done in layers, nuanced and finished with oil, highlighting the architecture of the subjects depicted.

SLM has abandoned the easel for a time and she works on a flat surface; this is made necessary by the use of ink to avoid inappropriate drips.

"Ink and Oil" is the title of the exhibition.

Have you noticed how with dark tones, almost matching tones, you can make a bright tone?

So without fear of contradiction, we dare finish our speech by quoting the famous oxymoron describing the nocturnal arrival of the Moors:
"This dim light falling from the stars ..."

Monflanquin. SLM une artiste «  multiple »

SLM is amazing, even unseizable, as her fields of artistic research are many both in painting and sculpture! Sylvie Landois-Maynard never ceases to explore creation since her insatiable curiosity for things and people is unlimited and her amazing talents are challenging, starting with herself... Last year at this time, she surprised with her brilliantly colored paintings of collage on canvas, architectural plans, paper painted in ink integrated to her oil and ink compositions. Today, she presents a vast work devoted to architecture; attraction to architecture is important as to further develop new shapes and embark on a search of tones: black, sepia, white, gray... to build structures and enhance them. Landscapes full of mystery... "talking" landscapes saying here the misery of Havana and there the famous towers of New York, the world and its distant promise, bridges, walls, roofs ... all this seems far - in appearance only - from galloping horses, men and women in their daily life... You do not feel sadness or melancholy in SLM but simply an unavoidable and irreducible need to go from discovery to discovery, from construction to "deconstruction", bordering on transparency, clearly stating a beautiful feminine sensitivity. An honest search, a serious one in abstract art by a great artist of manifold talents! To see without delay, Salle Aquitaine, until June 29.
