SLM, Monflanquin (47)

Sylvie Landois-Maynard, SLM, discovered Monflanquin in October last year, when she exhibited at our friends' "ART'ISTES gallery", arcade next door. We have appreciated her works there. Thus, we decided to manage a moment for her in our 2009 programme, already completed. It is with much pleasure that we welcome her today. For five years, she has literally skimmed the prestigious sites of Lot-et-Garonne culture. Considering her future projects, her timetable is already full up until the end of year … 2010. SLM, you have probably guessed that such a route could not be…without the people of Monflanquin!

Among the varied skills of our visitor, let us discover her paintings today, and the way she interprets real suffering through emblematic characters like François Villon, Leonardo Da Vinci, Shakespeare, historic characters, or else characters representative of music or literature like Carmen who leads us into tragedy in a bursting of violent colours, in those large paintings of hers, which though of expressionist vein, suggest more than they impose on us.

Let us be carried away in a maelstrom of colours and, since SLM seems to call us through her artworks, call us for help, let us be silent for a moment and join her in dreaming.

Space to Vivid Colours

Painting exhibitions follow one another, but do not look alike. And others will follow all along the tourist season.

Last Friday, Hervé Laurent, President of GEM ("Groupe Expression Monflanquin") welcomed the artist SLM, that is to say Sylvie Landois-Maynard. Surrounded with the official members of the association, he introduced the painter, mentioning "the vivid colours and the large sized works that catch the eye on entering the gallery. The harmony in colours attracts you and invites you around."

Exhibition until 9 July, Salle Aquitaine. Open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays; from 10 to 12:30 and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the other days.

EN VUE

S. Landois-Maynard

Of course, in civil status, she is Sylvie Landois-Maynard, but she is used to SLM as an artist. It is after these initials that she paints and sculpts. A little woman, SLM is in reality a grand lady in painting and her works shine out with talent! Red is her favourite colour, so it seems, as we go from one artwork to the other, red is multiple and its nuances really numerous and varied. The themes are elegantly and finely approached with brushes and knives, and let great sensitiveness and movement show through: horses, joy, live scenes, childhood, still life, dream, heroes of her passions (François Villon, Carmen, Leonardo Da Vinci…). The wounds of the past transform into some kind of serenity today. Her exhibition is to be seen in Monflanquin until 9 July
